Baker Sentenced to Life in Prison for Killing Colleague with Boiling Fat

Miguel Martínez, the baker who killed his colleague José Sofiudin Jaharise by throwing boiling fat on him while he slept in the city of Rosario, has been sentenced to life in prison. The tribunal, composed of First Instance judges Lisandro Artacho, Carlos Leiva, and Gonzalo Fernández Bussy, declared the man criminally responsible for the crime of aggravated homicide with treachery and coercive threats (three incidents), according to information from the Public Ministry of the Accusation. Through the investigation, it was determined that on December 7, 2022, the culprit took advantage of the victim resting inside the bakery, filled a plastic bucket with boiling fat from the fryer, went to the back of the establishment, and without a word, threw the abrasive liquid at over 100°C onto his head, face, and torso. After committing the crime, Martínez, 33, fled on his Guerrero Trip motorcycle and remained at large until March 2023, when his arrest was made. Jaharise remained hospitalized at the Dr. Clemente Álvarez Emergency Hospital (HECA) until he died on December 24 "due to complications from multiple organ failure and infections derived from the nature of the organic material and the place where he suffered the thermal burns." Likewise, prosecutor Patricio Saldutti attributed three intimidation incidents to him on January 17, 21, and 23, 2023, against his ex-partner, whom he contacted through the social network Facebook.
